SOCIAL EVENTS

The FIG Working Week has been cancelled. This is not a decision we have taken lightly and there are two overriding concerns that have caused us to make this decision at this time.

First, the Dutch Government announced new measurements to control the COVID-19 outbreak. In the Netherlands all gatherings are prohibited until 1 June.

Second, our primary concern is always the wellbeing of you, and we would not take on the responsibility, during these times, to bring so many surveyors from all over the world together.

We are sorry to inform you that we have cancelled all the social events.

If you have registered for the Working Week 2020 and for one (or more) social events, we will inform you about your registration.

Please be patient, we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Come and hear the story about the most known Dutch beer. The Dutch evening will bring you to the home of Heineken. You have the opportunity to discover how a small Amsterdam brewery went on to become the world’s favourite beer: from the heritage and brewing process, to the sponsorships and what it takes to serve a star. And of course ending in style: with a beer… or 2!

The Dutch Evening, which is also a dinner in support of FIG Foundation and supported by Trimble and the Local Organising Partners. A buffet will be offered in two rooms called Koelschip & Molenzolder.

About the Brewery: In 1868, Gerard Adriaan Heineken built his very own brewery on the outskirts of the city. The building became an instant icon. As the brewing company grew, so did Amsterdam, and in 1988, the brewery closed its kettles and the production moved to the south of Holland. Nowadays, the historic building is open for guests from all around the world.

When the Amsterdam brewery was still in use, the top floor or “Het Koelschip” was used to cool the hot wort before adding the yeast – simply by opening the many windows. Nowadays, this is the room with the best ‘dam view. The perfect backdrop for a party, a dinner and, of course, a selfie or two.

Before barley is added to water – the first step in the brewing process – it has to be malted. The Molenzolder was where the malt mill was located. Today, this room is more versatile.
